| Wells were put in by the visitors, and quickly Park knocked one down, but Evert Bekker and Mark Smith swiftly pulled away to post 38 in 6.3 overs. Two wasteful run-outs then pegged the score before young Rob Sharma and Oli Reynolds took the score from 70-5 to 104 with some splendid strokeplay, nurtured no doubt in their respective colts' encounters for Wells. In 7.1 overs these two saw to the addition of almost 60 runs, Park seemingly runnng out of options. The ninth pair added a vital 13 runs in 2 overs, leaving the target an interesting 136 for victory. Park set out at astonishing pace, John Harvey and Stuart Clarke blasting the chase to 60-1 in just over 7 overs, whereupon sanity and resolve returned as Smith (3-16 and Reynolds (3-16) blew away the middle order, assisted by some fine catches and hawkeye fielding. From apparent dominance, Park went from winning the game to defeat in 8 overs, finding themselves at 93-9 with 5 overs remaining. Sharma also added to the debacle with 2-14, winding matters up at 103 with as many as 3.5 overs unused. This was a magnificent turnabout by a confident and happy XI, but all accepted that anything can occur in such a format. And so to round two ... |
