| TW won the toss in this Cup game, and elected to bowl on an overcast and cool start to the day. Whilst not bowling badly, TW found Sevenoaks starting well to reach 33-0 off six overs, before captain Sam Watts brought himself on to bowl and promptly took two wickets in his first 4 balls, moving the ball in the air. He and Ed Fyson managed to reduce the run rate whilst taking 2 further wickets , before Albert Ray (a very last minute replacement) and Jack Wood took 4 wickets in 4 overs to slow the batsmens' momentum. Duncan Wallace took a wicket with the last ball of the innings to reduce the Vine to 94-9 off 20 overs, which was a very creditable effort from the bowlers, helped in no small part in the field. Nick Manser took 2 good catches and an even better stumping, and with George Bee and Mushtaq Khan fielding well, not one chance went begging. After this fine effort, the batsmen set about the Sevenoaks bowlers. A start which saw the openers try to run themselves out off each of the opening 3 balls was put right with some typically belligerent batting from Manser which saw them reach 42 before he fell to a stunning catch for 23 in the 6th over. Wood (who rode his luck) and Josh Brockman continued the attack before both had to retire, leaving Sam Watts and Sebastian Hudson to see TW home, reaching 98-1 in the 16th over and clinching a very creditable opening win of the season. |
