The Denness Luckhurst Foundation

The Denness Luckhurst Foundation – In memory of Mike Denness and Brian Luckhurst.

Two of Kent and England cricket’s most well-known families have joined forces to form the Denness Luckhurst Foundation, a not-for-profit organization, which aims to raise money through annual events. The launch event will be a charity golf day and dinner at The London Golf Club, in north Kent, on Monday, 8th September.

Awareness of The Foundation, which has been set up in memory of Mike Denness and Brian Luckhurst, has also been boosted by the creation of The Mike Denness Challenge Shield, a trophy to be played for between Kent and Essex.

“We are so pleased that Kent and Essex have supported the creation of the Denness Shield and our Foundation. Both families are delighted that the Cowdreys, through Chris, has also agreed to help raise money for our chosen charities, which are Mercy Ships, the Lord’s Taverners and Saint Francis Hospice.”

Chris Cowdrey, Colin’s eldest son and himself a former Kent and England captain – like Denness and his father before him – is to be the master of ceremonies at the charity’s golf day launch, and says: “Mike and Brian were so different in style but complemented each other perfectly and were a vital ingredient to Kent’s great triumphs in the 1970s.

“Aside from becoming a legendary opening partnership on the field, they were hugely liked and respected off it. I was privileged to have known them both as family friends and briefly as a player. I am pleased we will have the opportunity to remember them while supporting good causes so dear to their families. Two great guys, two great players.”

Those supporting and playing in the event include John Shepherd, Graham Gooch, John Emburey, Barry Hearn and Chris Hollins.
