HORSMONDEN U11: 70/4
TWCC GIRLS U12: 29 AO
July 27, 2020
First and foremost, huge respect for our wonderful 5 girls who travelled to the Horsmonden 'micro-climate' for last night's game. We only had six available for this fixture and I was so very sorry to hear that Lauren has broken her arm. Get well soon, Lauren, from all of us!
It must have rained pretty much everywhere and yet Horsmonden was reasonably dry when we arrived and, thankfully, it didn't rain for the entire game.
We lost the toss (again) and batted (again). Our format was modified due to numbers, so we played 15 overs with each pair batting 5 overs and Amelia batted twice to make the pairings. We scored well again, with a gross total of 79 - 63 of which came from the bat! That's excellent girls, well done. Our Achilles' heel is wickets - we lost 10 along the way - and so our net total was reduced to +29. But this is work in progress so not a moment for introspection.
We bowled very well and Hannah even managed a maiden over along the way, before changing duties at half time to keep wicked. Everyone made a positive contribution and this was reflected in the score sheet with Horsmonden scoring fewer runs off the bat (55) than us. Extras conceded (35) included 12 byes - to leave Horsmonden with a gross 90 and they lost only 4 wickets along the way (net 70).
A few tweaks to our cricket skills and that's all we need. Top effort ladies!
TWCC GIRLS U14: 58-3 (18.2 OVERS)
SOUTHBOROUGH U13 B : 57-5 (20 OVERS)
July 19, 2020
Player of the match: Diya (19 not out on her birthday!)
Champagne moment: Bowled Ruby, Caught Eva. Really good ball and a steepling catch!
We managed to squeeze a match in this morning in the drizzle at the Upper Nevill. Eva and Orla (our captains for the day) lost the toss and Southborough elected to bat. Some very tight bowling by the girls in their first match of the season restricted Southborough to 57 runs off their 20 overs. Special mention for the three run outs, some very economical bowling (Emilia; 1for2 off 2 overs and Orla; 1for1 off one over), good fielding by Eva, Lucy, Annabelle, Evie and Honey and wicket keeping by Alice and Mireya.
Alice then anchored the innings, batting watchfully and Diya hit some super shots to take her to 19 not out on her birthday! Emilia hit the winning runs to take us past the Southborough total with 10 balls to spare.
Special thanks to late callu ps Evie and Lucy (and Saskia for providing extra cover…), to James C for scoring and to the Brandon cheerleaders in the rain!
CHIDDINGSTONE U11: 78/4
TWCC GIRLS U12: 64/3
July 19, 2020
What a fabulous warm evening to kick off our seven 2020 fixtures. Chiddingstone really is a wonderful ground with magnificent far reaching views across the Weald. Now before I start describing the spacious and well appointed pavilion and herbaceous borders....to the cricket!
I though we were fantastic. For a first outing the girls showed great skill and determination. Team spirit was high from start to finish and the side included several 'new to hardball' cricketers. It didn't show.
So we came a narrow second. But the game was finely balanced until the very last over. Batting first we made a very competitive gross total of 79 and lost 3 wickets (minus 15) to give us a net 64. We called and ran well between the stumps and several players struck boundaries.
Chiddingstone's score was a gross 98, but we took 4 wickets to give them a net 78 and victory by 14 runs. The champagne moment was a Lottie Davidson run-out....a direct hit from a clean pick-up and throw in the 13th over, which sent the crown wild! At this stage Chiddingstone were behind and the girls could sense victory. But it wasn't to be as the boys showed composure in the closing few deliveries to see them home.
Well done everyone. A socially distanced photo attached. Keep playing with a nice wide smile and an even wider bat. Victory awaits!
